Summer of 3d printing
The AFRL Maker Hub in partnership with the Wright Brothers Institute, is offering the opportunity for WPAFB personnel to build a small Prusa i3-clone 3D printer at cost. The purpose is to give as many people as possible the opportunity to get a deep understanding of 3D printing technology by building the tool from the ground up. The Wright Brothers Institute is going to purchase the hardware in bulk and provide it at cost to participants. The rest of the kit will be made up of 3D printed and CNC-ed parts that participants will make themselves at the AFRL Maker Hub. We will provide full assembly instructions and also hold daily lunchtime meetups for those who are assembling their printers to work together.
The final cost of the 3D printer kits will be determined by the number of participants, since the Wright Brothers Institute will buy the parts in bulk and provide them at cost. We estimate the final price will be between $250-$350. A comparable off-the-shelf kit retails for $800-$900. Once registration closes, we will email participants with the final estimated cost. You are able to back out of the opportunity at any time.
